51,000,000. That’s a lot of women
Now, in my sixth decade, I finally recognize one of the primary reasons I was put on earth: To tell the world about the most fabulous women in the world (who are now over fifty, of course).
Mind you, I think some pretty cool women are wandering about who are under fifty (my daughter Simone, first and foremost), but they can tell each other how fabulous they are in two decades. Now it’s our turn.
I conceived of Fab Over Fifty earlier this year because I know how much my generation of women (51million of us in the US) has accomplished and how much we appreciate, respect and adore one another. How great would it be if we could share our stories, our Fab Faves in everything from where we shop to where we dine and what we read, and our great style and wisdom.
As women began registering on the site (we launch towards the end of January), I became more excited every day to read their messages, which confirm just how extraordinary they really are.
Barbara Mangini
Without further ado, meet FOF Barbara Mangini from Newburyport, MA, a city 35 miles North of Boston that’s oozing with New England charm. “My friends and I are Fab Over Fifty because we are creative and inventive, with hearts of twenty, wide-eyed optimism, and new found wisdom. Every inch of this blog sparkles, from Barbara’s warm and witty prose to the photos and graphics. She muses about anything and everything she loves… film, books, fashion, friends, design. You will enjoy her recommendations. Although Barbara hasn’t given up her day job as an ad exec helping to brand clients, she thinks this time of life is about “who we are rather than who someone else is.”
Barbara logs in a lot of bloghours, when she isn’t working, and she loves every minute of it. “The coolest thing about being over fifty is knowing enough to share the things that make life simple and grand.”

I’m not surprised that Barbara is being recognized and found out by those who appreciate good aesthetics and design. We’ve had had the benefit of her incredible depth of style and branding expertise at SOCIALtality sharing the same physical space in Newburyport.
Barbara understands that good blogging requires deep thought, research, good visuals, and a personal connection to the topic of discussion. This comes naturally to her and I’m thrilled to see that I’m not along in my appreciation of her!

I’m so glad that this is taking off. But must confess why I’ve not written something (& I’m a writer & former reporter/editor). You’ve made me face how upset I am to have turned 50 (2 years ago). It’s just so many things; some unique to me, others shared with others.
Still thinking on it.
Meanwhile, I read & follow anonymously. People looking at my profile, especially those who know me, will shriek “What? She’s over 40? She’s 53!” I can hear it now. Now off to swim, think about it, feel guilty about it, & keep on with my low-key campaign against using the word ‘cougar’ for anything but the actual cat.

Thank you for your kind words. I didn’t love turning fifty either, but sixty hit me harder. Then I realized I make most 30 year olds look like they’re sitting still.

Thanks for the over 50 website that is not a knitting group. We are vibrant, smart, and sexy.
Looked through the Bluemercury web site. I wish there was one in the Tampa Bay area. I love samples and to luxuriate. I would love the giveaway since I am no where near one of their stores.
